Reaching New Heights

On October 10, 2011, Little Company of Mary Hospital staff, patients, supporters and construction workers gathered outside the construction site to celebrate a milestone in the historic project. The "topping-out" ceremony commemorated the raising of the new building's highest steel beam and marked the completion of the steel framework of the eight-story, 270,000-square-foot West Pavilion.

The moment was a symbolic end to the first phase of the Campus Transformation Project. Throughout the summer and fall, workers poured concrete columns and floors and installed steel beams for the shell of the new West Pavilion. As the project now moves into the next phase, on-track for opening in fall 2012, anticipation is growing among both hospital staff and supporters.

"Watching the building take shape makes the project very real for everyone," says Kevin Rehder, Project Manager/ Vice President, Clinical Services. "We can finally see the product of our efforts and visualize what we've been planning for so long. There is a lot of excitement around the project now."
